A day in the Sierra's

We packed up the RV’s and got out as early as possible to start up the hill to the campground that we love Intake 2. The road is a little steep but not very curvy so driving isn’t a bad drive and we made it in good time to the campground.

We tried to camp next to Kim but couldn’t fit into the site next to her. It didn’t matter as there was only one other camper and that one was off to the side. This campground is small and campsites are not easy to get into with our RV so it was nice that the campground was empty.
We dropped our RV, packed up a picnic and all jammed into our truck. We retraced our steps from September 22nd.

1st stop was North Lake and the leaves were beautiful. Kim and Zaya walked along the road between the trees while Jasper scampered on the rocks. I shot photos and Dale explored.

From North Lake, we went to Lake Sabrina. The trees were changing and beautiful. The grandkids went down to the water to explore while I shot more photos. I got a photo of Dale and I sitting on a rock by the lake. I’d taken a photo like this several years ago with our faithful Twinkle, this time it was just the two of us.

The last stop was South Lake and like 1 month ago we took our picnic to our private spot. We had a little different food including a fabulous potato salad that Kim had made. I tried to control myself but alas, finished it off.

We stopped at a couple of other spots including the lake at Intake 2. Every place we stopped was so beautiful.

The following morning, we started home but had a couple of stops, 1st Schat’s for snacks and then Copper Top for the best BBQ ribs this side of Memphis!

We sent Kim on her way north while we headed south for home, 1 month after starting out. We were stuffed and happy!

A Little Fall Color

Spending some time in the Aspen trees

We love the Sierra’s, both the eastern side and the west side. We love all seasons but a favorite is fall, we love the fall colors. So when we planned our trip, we thought we’d come down the 395 and see about shooting some fall foliage.

We got a late start on Tues and after a stop at Schat’s we consulted with the Forest Service. We took their advice and started north.

We’ve never been to Convict Lake so made that our first stop. It was nice but there were no groves of Aspen trees to walk into. The trees were mostly lining the road with a drop-off. Next, we went to Rock Creek Canyon. After the lake, the Aspens had already peaked. At the lake, the Aspens were in color, but there were not so many.

We decided to go to North Lake, a place we have been before. I’d read that above 9,000’ the color has peaked already and this was largely the case. There were trees lining the road up to North Lake in full color, but groves were difficult to get to. At North Lake, some areas had color while many trees were bare. Meanwhile, the drive into the campground was stunning.

We did shoot some fun photos. We decided that it would be fun to take photos of us hugging each other within the grove. I got my running in using the camera timer.

This morning we went to South Lake, a place we have used as a launch for backpack trips. The drive was absolutely stunning. Trees in reds, yellows, and greens lined the road up. We did find an area to shoot what we are calling selfies, with my big camera. Lots of hug and kisses selfies. I had other ideas for photos but it was way too cold!

Now to go thru all of these photos, not to mention 100’s of others and see what to post on Flicker and maybe even for stock!
Of course, I got a call to see if we are ready to go to work the hurricane. Projects may have to wait for another few months while we are off making money.

So we are headed home. We want to have the house in order and an idea of what we need to pack up in order to leave, either to work or for moreplay.
