XinXiang day 2

Visiting local artists

Our bus was to leave at 4 p.m. so it was an early start. Today was the artists day. On our way to the first
stop we got a call saying a tv crew was waiting for us
Our 1st stop was at Mr. Wang who sculpts from the roots of trees. He does minimal carving so that the piece
s still natural yet u can see it is a figure of something.
The art work was remarkable. Again i'll post photos when possible.
After touring the studio we had to go to the Wang's apartment upstairs to see his garden and then have
some tea. The film crew came along too. Mike and I sat on the couch with Mrs. Wang beside me and Mr
Wang beside Mike. The film crew filmed our every sip of tea.
We had to hurry as we were due at a 2nd artists house, an old classmate of Mr. Wang. We all piled into
the tv van, a mini van with no rear seat. The Wang's brought out tiny stools for people to sit on in the back
The 2nd artist, Mr. Chang carves wood as well but he is famous for carving a face in wood, that is his bread
and butter. He also carved mythical Chinese figures housed in museums and temples. We found that Mr.
Chang has been recognized by UNESCO and many world leaders have visited him. I'm having two pieces carved then signed
by him.
We gave a closing interview to the tv crew before catching our taxi. These artists were the experience of a lifetimel
